New Zealand education system is based on the prestigious British system. NZ institutes offer world class facilities, resources and faculties. Through NZ qualifications, students can take transfers throughout the world, as it is recognized worldwide.

There are 8 Universities, 23 Polytechnics or Institutes of Technology (ITP’s) and 860 Private Training Establishments (PTE’s) in New Zealand.
New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) is responsible for approving and registering all courses and national qualifications offered at polytechnics and private training establishments. NZQA is also responsible for accrediting and registering PTE’s.

School Education

Most schools cater for primary, intermediate, secondary school students

  • Years 1–6: Primary School (Ages 5–10)
  • Years 7–8: Intermediate School (Ages 11–12)
  • Years 9–13: Secondary School (Ages 13–18)

Teritiary Education

Vocational Study

  • Offered at Polytechnics, Institutes of Technology and private tertiary and training establishments.
  • Offered at polytechnics and institutes of technology you can study for a certificate,diploma or degree and can also achieve training.

Bachelor’s Degree

  • During the admission process all students get evaluated on their NCEA results as well as  other criteria.
  • A Bachelor’s degree typically lasts for almost 3-4 years at university.

Master’s Degree

    • A Masters degree typically last for almost 2 years at university.
    • An Honours degree is awarded after an additional year of research, however it is only awarded to students who do not already have an Honours degree.

 

Doctoral Degree

  • Requires a student to have either a Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with Honors.
  • Requires a student to have qualification of graduate, diploma and master’s degree
